![]() ![]() The Jordan, Weber and Bear Rivers feed the terminal lake and deposit millions of tons of salts and minerals, supporting the industries that mine the lake for magnesium and sulfate of potash and harvest brine shrimp. ![]() Ten million birds from 338 different species make an annual pilgrimage to the Great Salt Lake to rest, fatten up on brine flies and shrimp and breed before they continue their long migrations south. The Great Salt Lake is home to a unique (quirky, even) selection of plants and animals. It is the largest saline lake in the Western Hemisphere-the eighth largest in the world.
